Oklahoma City Thunder’s rising star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is facing an unexpected hurdle in his real estate journey. The 25-year-old basketball sensation, who has been making waves with his performances on the court, encountered a strange situation after moving into his dream lakefront home in Ontario.

Back in May, Gilgeous-Alexander and his girlfriend settled into a $6.1 million US ($8.4 million CAD) mansion on Lake Ontario in Burlington. The property, once owned by Crypto King Aiden Pleterski, became the subject of an unsettling incident that led to the NBA star’s decision to sue and potentially cancel the mansion purchase.

According to reports by Nicole Brockbank of CBC, a few days after moving in, Gilgeous-Alexander allegedly faced a threatening visit from an unknown individual seeking information about Pleterski, who had previously leased the property. Pleterski’s cryptocurrency and foreign exchange investment operation had collapsed, resulting in financial troubles.

Gilgeous-Alexander claims ignorance about Pleterski until this unwelcome visitor arrived. Alarmed, the basketball player and his girlfriend called the police, discovering that there had been previous threats to the property, including one to burn it down.

In response, Gilgeous-Alexander is pursuing legal action, asserting that the sellers failed to disclose the property’s history of threats, constituting fraudulent misrepresentation.

Pleterski, 24, faced bankruptcy and reported kidnapping and assault after moving out of the home. Five individuals were charged in connection with the kidnapping. Despite the off-court challenges, Gilgeous-Alexander continues to make significant contributions on the basketball court, securing a lucrative five-year, $172 million extension with the Thunder in the 2021 offseason.

riginally drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in 2018, Gilgeous-Alexander became a key player for the Thunder after a trade involving Paul George. Averaging impressive stats, including 29.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game this season, Gilgeous-Alexander remains a crucial part of the Thunder’s future plans.
